Biography Notes...

Lloyd J. Evjen, age 74, of Strandburg, SD passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at his residence. Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Tabor Lutheran Church, Strandburg, with Rev. Elmer Brinkman officiating. Music will be furnished by vocalists, Elaine Kock and Lois Harrington and organist, Kathy Granquist.

Interment will be in the Troy Cemetery, Troy, SD. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Wight, Comes and Sogn Funeral Chapel, and on Saturday prior to services at the church.

Honorary Pallbearers will be friends and neighbors.

Active Pallbearers will be Christopher Evjen, David Huselid, Allen Huselid, Kevin Huselid, Kyle Evjen, and Jacob Mans.

Lloyd James Evjen, the son of John and Agnes (Osterkil) Evjen was born on January 10, 1930 in at Watertown, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Troy Lutheran Church. He attended school in Troy, and then worked for area farmers until moving to Pierre in 1950 to work construction. On December 22, 1950 he married Joyce Forman in Pierre, South Dakota. In 1952, the couple lived and farmed northeast of Waverly before moving to a farm south of Troy in 1964. Lloyd was a dairy farmer until his retirement. He was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He was also a 4-H leader, care taker of the Troy Cemetery and the Stage Coach Stop. He played on a baseball team while living in Troy and also in Pierre. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and wildlife, and being with his family and friends was a priority.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Loyal Evjen; and one sister, Nordis VanHorn.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Strandburg; three daughters, Nancy Amberg and her husband, Robert of Wessington Springs, Virginia Evjen of Willmar, MN, and Lucille Mans and her husband, Cary of Tulsa, OK; two sons, Bryan Evjen and his wife, Kathy of Strandburg, and Lowell Evjen of Lynwood, WA; two brothers, Raynard Evjen and his wife, Phyllis of Stockholm, and John Evjen and his wife, Joyce of Lake Mills, IA; four sisters, Adelle Kucker of Watertown; Helen Engevik and her husband, Soren of Sisseton, Ruth Haugen of Lake Mills, IA, and Vivian Larson and her husband, Eldor of Watertown; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
