Loyal A. Evjen, the son of John and Agnes (Osterkil) Evjen was born on January 10, 1930 at Watertown, South Dakota. He spent his childhood on a farm near Troy, S.D. loyal was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On December 6, 1953 he married Dorothy Tesch in the St. Martin's Lutheran Churchatwatertown, S.D. Following his discharge, he moved to Watertown where he was employed by General Supply. The couple moved to Billings, Montana for two years. Loyal purchased a farm near Stockholm in 1963, and they farmed until 1980, when they moved into South Shore. He was employed as an Ag Tech for SDSU at the N.E. Research Farm for 15 years- loyal continued working part time until health problems forced him to retire. He had been a resident of a Watertown care center since September of 1999.

He was a member of the Our Saviors Evangelical Lutheran Church, and held various offices. He was a member of the Stockholm/ Strandburg American Legion and served on the South Shore Town Board. He loved to fish, and enjoyed woodworking and coin collecting.

Loyal A. Evjen passed away on Friday, February 16, 2001 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sons, Mark, John, and an infant.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lori and Bryan Waege of Watertown, and Lisa and Brian Comes of Waverly; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jody Evjen of Watertown; his mother-in-law, Mary Tesch of Watertown; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Adelle Kucker of Watertown, Helen and Soren Engvik of Eden; Ruth Haugen of Lake Milk, IA., Nordis Vanhom of Portland, OR., and Vivian and Eldor Larson of Watertown; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Raynard and Phyllis Evjen of Stockholm, Lloyd and Joyce Evjen of Strandburg, and John and Joyce Evjen of Lake Mills, IA., and nine grandchildren.
