LAKE MILLS, Iowa - Joyce M. Evjen, 72, Lake Mills, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, in Lake Mills.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Salem Luthern an Church at Lake Mills
with the Rev. David E. Jordon officiating.

Graveside services will be held in July in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Troy, S.D.
The family requests that memorials and donations be directed to the Lake Mills Senior Citizens Club
in her name. Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Marie (Nelson) Evjen was born Feb. 16, 1938, in Summit, S.D., to Clarence and
Etta (Adolphsen) Nelson. She was baptized at Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church, South Shore,
S.D., and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, S.D. She grew up in the Watertown area
and graduated from Watertown High School in 1956. Aug. 4, 1956, she married John Evjen. They moved to
Lake Mills where she worked at Monk's Grill when it first opened. In 1958, she began working at Deluxe
Products (Fleetguard/Cummins), where she worked for 37 years. After her retirement, she traveled to see
friends and family. Time each winter was spent in Texas and California to see her children, grandchildren
and long distance family and friends. They made many new friends at their adopted church, Grace Lutheran,
in Mathis, Texas. In Lake Mills, she enjoyed meeting friends at the monthly Fleetguard retirement breakfasts
as well as the weekday congregate meals at the Senior Center. She also enjoyed her weekly breakfast with the
girls and visiting with friends over coffee, treats and games of dice or cards.

She was active at Salem Lutheran Church with the Altar Guild and her circle's work. She enjoyed preparing
the baby layettes, the school kits and the health kits. When they joined the Lake Mills Senior Citizens Club,
she became an active board member serving as secretary, vice president, president, and trustee over the
years. She enjoyed family vacations to South Dakota, reading, antiquing, flower pot gardening, bowling and
was an avid fan of the Twins and the Vikings.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, John; one daughter, Janice (Tom) Ramthun of Lake Mills;
one son, Jim (Rose) Evjen of Portland, Texas; four grandchildren; her sisters, Delores Roberts of Watertown,
Donna Miller of Watertown and Barbara (Dennis) Meseberg of Ontario, Calif.; one brother, Jerry (Deb) Nelson of
Lawrence, Kan.; her sisters-in-law, Vivian Larson of Watertown, Joyce Evjen of Strandburg, S.D., and Dorothy
Barck of Marshall, Minn.; and one brother-in-law, Raynard (Marilyn) Evjen of Stockholm, S.D.
