Hi Daniel
I hope you and your family are doing great! Everything is allreight here in Norway. As you probably remember I told you that my father and my aunt was going to write you. I received a letter from my aunt Rannei Marie just some days ago, so that I could put it into english and send it to you. So I am going to try to translate it into english now. This is what she wrote:
We have often talked about, and wondered how our relatives in USA are. We have wondered how many of the oldest who were still alive, and how their children were doing.
For long we have wanted to get in touch but haven't had any addresses. We have been looking for a address in my children's home, but haven't found any.
I do remember well my mother talked a lot about her relatives in USA, specially about Agnes and Rosalie. I also remember the "america package" that we use to receive. After the 2. World War we couldn't afford much, and we didn't have much clothes, so we were so grateful for what we received from USA.
As my mother got older, the correspond of letter became more and more seldom, and the last years she lived she didn't write or receive anything at all. Those who could write norwegian in USA had become old themselves, and I guess they were not that good to write letters eighteen.
Even though when my mother was old she often start talking about her relatives. She wondered so much if they were alive and if they were doing fine
In my children's house in Surnadal we have a picture standing of a beautiful girl. The picture has been there as long as I can remember, and I know the picture came from USA.
We have closed the house for the winter, but I am going there in Easter, then I am going to copy the picture and send it to you. Maybe any of you know who she is.
Then a little bit about myself. My name is Rannei Marie. I was born in 1943. I lived whit my mother and father in Surnadal till 1961. Then I moved to Trondheim, a city which is 130 kilometer north-east of Surnadal. It only takes 2 hours by car to go there, so I visit Surnadal very often
My father died in 1972 and my mother in 1993. My brother Arnfinn and I have kept our children's house. I am married to Rolf Svalgres, and we have two boys, Rune age 24 and Arild age 18. It is Arild and my brother youngest daughter Lene who have had contact whit you.
Of my mothers siblings there are only two that are still alive. That is Karen, age 88 and Beret, age 82. Unfortunately Beret had a stroke for 7-8 years ago, and since then she has been in a coma. Karen is in pretty good shape. She is a widow and she lives in a elder home. With Love Rannei Marie!!!
That was the letter from my aunt. By the way if I am sending a letter to Irene Ostlund, may I send in norwegian or in english? I know she does speak norwegian, but will she prefer to get a letter in english?
And the picture I promised you I have send them in to copying, so I will send them as soon I get them back. Well this have to bee all for now, but I will write you soon again.
