Hello!
My name is Haldis Haugen, and I live in Surnadal, Norway. I friend of mine, Kay Myrbekk told me about your Photo Album on the Internett. I read it and found out that we are related!!
With the help of my father and mother I found out this about your Great Grandmother Synnøve Arntsdotter Sylte:
Mother: Ragnhild Jakobsdatter Sylte born 1799
Father: Arnt Olsen (Stomprø) Sylte born 1807 He drowned in 1842
Brother : Ola born 1836
Sister: Eli born 1838 married to Jo Johnsen Sylte
and then: Synnøve born 1840
Ola, Eli and Synnøve all emigrated to America, and according to books here in Surnadal, most likely their mother went with them.
But how are we related?
Synnøve’s mother Ragnhild had a brother: Kristoffer, he had a son: Lars, Lars had a son: Ola, Ola had a daughter: Marit, Marit had a daughter: Helga and Helga had a daughter: Haldis. THATS ME!
You’ve done a great job with your Photo Album, it’s wery interesting to see those old photos!
A little about myself:
As I said, my name is Haldis. I am 35 years old, married and have two children. 10 years ago I visitef USA together with my father. We viseted my father’s cousins in Williston, North Dakota and Litte Falls, Minnesota. I had a rally interesting time, and I and my husband are going back when the children are a little bit older.
Since both Synnøve Arntsdotter Sylte and Anne Olsdotter Sylte came from the same area in Surnadal, you might think that they were related. My mother helped me to dig in old books, and we found out that they were not related, there are many Sylte’s i Surnadal, and besides, in the 1800’s many people took the name of the place where they lived as their second name.
