The years went by and the family began to have the "America" fever. The year 1872 a sister and the hero of this episode left for America. The year after a brother. They found the conditions here in America so wonderful that they sent for the entire family. The year 1875 there was a great immigration from Merager to America. Besides a great flock of young men and women the following families also came at that time: John Jensen Stordahlsvold with wife and four children, Jens, Marit, Oline and Lars, Halvor Tideman with wife and five children, Marit, Hemming, Marie, Halvor and Magmus. O. O. Brubak and son Ole. Arnt Bruuen and wife. Ole Berg and wife and her sister, Beret Berg. John Røberg and wife, and mother-in-law Maren Røberg. Johan Flaamoe and wife with two small children. Ingrebrit Oyen with wife and three sons, Iver, Nels and Anthon, and old couple, Anders and Ingeborg Oyen, who were under the care of a young boy named Sievert Johnson. There were not all on the same boat but left Merager at the same time and arrived at about the same time to the Sioux Valley that had been settled nine years ago. Among those who set their tents up by the Sioux River's edge was also Gudmund Ravlo from Verdalen. Their youngest son Martin had learned the eternal truth that "it's not good for man to live alone" and so he had begun to use rooster legs at getting a girl by the name of Beret Tidemann, a daughter of Halvor Tidemann, who was quite willing to carry life's burdens together with him and that the wedding should take place when her parents arrived from Norway. With their arrival no time was wasted before the wedding took place. [From page 65.]

John Røberg, born 20th of July, 1839, Upper Stjørdalen, Meraker, Norway. Sara Gunnarsdaughter, born 12th of August, 1830, Meraker, Norway. 2 children: Maria, Lena. [From page 199.]

John and Sara Røberg came to Burk Townhsip the 2nd of June, , direct from Norway. They took Homestead in Section which since has been their home. Their daughter Maria was married to Karsten Sorkilmo and lived in with the parents until the husband's death. She lives with her daughter in Sioux Falls. The other daughter Lina was married to Thormund Hanson and has lived on her land next to the parents' land, since her husband died. John died in and Sara in 1909. [From page 241-242. Sara is the sister of Peder Gunnarson Røberg and Beret Gunnarsdatter Blestervold. Lina is the daughter of John by Lisbet Rollaugsdatter Brende. Thormun Hanson is also Thomas Hanson,]

The 1900 census confirmed that John Roberg was John, the second son, born 20 Jul 1839; and Johan, born 10 Aug 1849, became John Flomo (Flamo). There is (or was) a farm called Røberg near Meråker, and the older John lived there after his marriage. Johan married a woman from Røberg, so it is a little confusing. The older John may have been married earlier to Lisbet Rollaugsdtr. Evjebakken and had a daughter, Lina, in 1859. Maybe Lina was Mrs. Sundal in Baltic, SD (my Norsk translation is not the best).

Perhaps Lars did not emigrate. Uncle Peter told me years ago that his mother had four brothers and two sisters living near Dell Rapids. All in the family but Lars are accounted for.
