Soren Isak Engevik was born on February 15, 1911 to
Ole S. and Marit (Holm) Engevik in Drywood Lake Township,
SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Buffalo Lake
Lutheran Church, where he was a life-long member. Soren
attended school at Drywood Lake Countiy School through
the eighth grade. On November 28, 1948, Soren married
Helen Evjen at lmmanuel Lutheran Church in Troy, SD. The
couple lived on the southeast corner of Buffalo Lake near
Eden where they farmed and raised Angus cattle. They
lived there until the fall of 2003, when they moved to
the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton,

Soren enjoyed fishing, reading aloud to his. family,
driving around the countryside looking at crops, and
visiting with his friends and neighbors over coffee.
Soren served on the church council at Buffalo Lake
Lutheran Church most of his adult life and was
instmmenta] in keeping the church open in the early
1970’s.

Soren passed away February 4, 2006 at the Tekakwitha
Nursing Center in Sisseton.

Soren is survived by his wife, Helen Engevik of Sisseton,
SD; five children: Luther Engevik of Eden, SD, Maurice
Engevik of Sisseton, SD, Katherine (David) Osthus of
Eagan, MN, Marshall (Lori) Engevik of St. Cloud, MN, and
Albert Engevik of Watertown, MN; six grandchildren:
Christina, Julia, Michael, and Marretta Osthus of Eagan,
MN, and Marit and Isaac Engevilk of St. Cloud, MN; two
nieces: Laura Perryman of Huron, SD, and Jane (Tom)
Torres of Brentwood, CA; and two nephews: Allan Thompson
of Watertown, SD, and Dick (Jan) Thompson of Custer, SD.
Soren was preceded in death by his parents., Ole and
Marit, his sister, Amanda Thompson, and his twin infant
sons, Ole John and John Ole.
